Smith County, Texas (KETK) — The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing that happened during an argument Monday night.
It happened around 7:00 p.m. at a residence on West Lakeshore Drive in Smith County just off of Highway 31.
A Smith County Deputy was called to the scene for a disturbance in that area.
The deputy reported that Jermaine Lamar Benson, 29, had arrived home and was found to be intoxicated when a verbal altercation began with Benson and his wife.
The altercation then turned violent when Benson began to assault his wife.
Two maintenance men, who were at the home working on the heating system tried to intervene to protect the woman. Benson then allegedly attacked both of the men.
One of the men, in what appears to be in self-defense, stabbed Benson to stop the attacks.
Benson was taken to a local hospital for treatment and surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.
The Smith County Sheriff's Office is currently investigation this incident.
