LINDALE, TEXAS (KETK) — Smith County volunteer firefighters reached out with their helmets on Saturday for their fellow friend and Lindale firefighter Joe Yeakley.
A benefit was held across Smith County called ‘Fill the Helmet' raising money for Joe Yeakley.
East Texans got the opportunity to drop money in a helmet and express their thoughts and prayers.
Yeakley was severely burned and critically injured while battling a house fire in January. We’re told he sustained critical injures, but it's been very difficult for the Yeakley family as Joe Yeakley is on a long road to recovery.
Arp firefighter, Barry Barnett says the money raised will go toward Yeakley’s long recovery and expenses.
Dixie Volunteer Fire Department Captain, Robert Grimes says they’re thankful for all the out pouring support they’ve received since Yeakley’s hospitalization.
