Lufkin — Lufkin is used to going on the road.
The Panthers used to be in a district with Houston area teams.
This is worse.
Lufkin will be paired with Ennis starting this fall.
That means the Panthers will have an even longer road trip.
Lufkin will have the second-longest round trip in Class 5A.
The Panthers' trips to Ennis will be 308 miles round trip.
Only San Antonio Southside High School will have longer road trips in 5A.
Southside and three Laredo schools will travel to play each other 314 miles.
"We're going to load the bus and go play," said Lufkin coach Todd Quick. "The last eight years we've been going two hours."
"You've still got to get on the bus and travel when you get into the playoffs," Quick added. "So it's a preparation for us."
The long bus trips will start this fall.
Ennis will travel to Lufkin this football season.
Lufkin will make the trip to Ennis the following year.
