Longview — Sixth-grader Robert Hough III and several of his peers jumped on shovels Monday morning, plunging them into dirt, combining “a bit of creativity” with a “little bit of resources” to make great things happen.
The Innovation Academy on the UT-Tyler Longview University Center campus was the only school in the state to be awarded a grant from Project Learning Tree, the environmental education program of the American Forest Foundation, for a student-led project to create a “living classroom” outside on the school grounds. The $1,000 grant was one of 47 awarded to schools and youth organizations, according to Project Learning Tree.
The students broke ground on the project Monday in an official ceremony.
