(KETK) - Tyler, Tx — On Thursday, an area of Low pressure will develop out of the Rockies on Wednesday night and will quickly strengthen and produce a squall line of severe thunderstorms. A cold front will fall into place with this Low pressure system and will sweep through the central and eastern half of the country—including East Texas.
As this front moves through, we could have a few showers and a possible thunderstorm, but we are not expecting severe weather. The severe weather potential will be from just east of Shreveport to the Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, and Great Lakes regions. This is the Storm Prediction Center outlook as of Wednesday afternoon.
Behind this front, much cooler and drier air will filter into our area. Let’s talk what we will see over the next few days.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT — THURSDAY DAYBREAK
After a very warm and breezy day on Wednesday, clouds will be back on the increase and we’ll have a very mild night across East Texas. It will also be windy as well, especially by daybreak Thursday. Also note in the images below, a very tightly-compacted area of Low pressure. You can tell the compactness and intensity of the Low by the lines of equal pressure surrounding the Low.
DURING THE DAY THURSDAY
We’re tracking a cold front that will move into East Texas between the late morning and late afternoon hours. As this happens, a few light showers will be possible. Early afternoon high temperatures will reach the low and upper 70s area-wide. It will be a windy as well with strong southwest winds between 15-25 miles per hour and gusting between 30-35 miles per hour, and then after the cold front moves through winds will shift to the north/northwest. As this colder air moves in, temperatures will quickly fall back into the 60s by late afternoon and to the 50s by early evening.
FRIDAY & THE WEEKEND
Cooler air will stay with us into the weekend but it will be very nice and seasonable. Expect highs to be in the 60s each day and near 70 by Sunday. Lows will be in the 30s & 40s and reaching the upper 40s to low 50s by Sunday morning. The weekend will consist of mostly sunny skies on Friday with clouds increasing by Sunday. A cold front will be moving in during the day Sunday and chances of rain will return by early next week (and possibly as early as late Sunday night).
The overall progression of our East Texas weather is to go back below normal. The CPC has our area in a 50%-60% chance of seeing below normal temperatures from February 24-28.
