Tyler — Earl Campell won a state championship at John Tyler.
The Tyler Rose won the Heisman Trophy at Texas.
Campbell is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He was in Tyler Saturday night for the annual city-wide celebration of Black History month.
KETK Sports Director Danny Elzner asked the legendary East Texan about the new coach of the Longhorns, Charlie Strong.
Campbell said he's very impressed.
"I worked with Coach Mack Brown when he had a chance to come to the University," Campbell said. "I wanted to see the program get better."
"As a former athlete and alum, I plan on working with Coach Strong and his staff the same way," Campbell added.
"Coach Brown had to leave but he did some great things for our University," Campbell said. "I believe Coach Strong and his staff are going to have a chance to do some great things at the University as well."
" I believe that we as former players and alums of the University, we have to back him and give him a chance," Campbell added.
