Longview — Local elections officials reported slow-going in early voting that continues through Friday for next week’s primary elections.
“Our early voting is really low,” Gregg County Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy said Tuesday.
Early balloting at the Gregg County Courthouse and three neighborhood sites had drawn 2,153 voters by Tuesday, Nealy reported.
That’s 3.24 percent of the 66,407 voters registered in Gregg County, where two precincts have heated races for county commissioner.
Those figures rise when mail-in ballots are included — 3,497 votes and 5.26 percent of registered voters — but neither are on track to match the number of 2012 early votes, which was 6,735.
