6:20 PM Update:
A major ice storm continues to hit the central and northern parts of East Texas, including the Tyler-Longview area. Sleet and freezing rain accumulations will reach one half inch to 2 inches across much of the area near and to the north of a line from Palestine to Jacksonville and to Henderson. This includes the Tyler-Longview area. Trees and powerlines will be coming down as well, probably causing major power outages. Travel is highly discouraged and will be virtually impossible in many areas tonight as slush freezes solid as temperatures will continue to drop reaching 15-19 in most areas by daybreak. South of a line from Palestine to Jacksonville and to Henderson temperatures will also drop to below freezing tonight, but with less precipitation falling ice accumulations will be much lighter. However, there still can be some icy bridges and overpasses in parts of Deep East Texas overnight. Stay with KETK and KETKnbc.com for updates throughout the evening and a complete weather broadcast tonight on KETK News at 10 PM.
12:20 PM Update:
Most activity is to the north of our area. We are seeing light drizzle/showers across the rest of East Texas this afternoon.
Temperatures are very cold in from Crockett to Henderson and points northward. Cold front will move through Deep East Texas in the next few hours.
Latest models indicate more precipitation to develop as we go through the afternoon and early evening hours. Perhaps some heavier thunderstorms with sleet as well. KETK continue to forecast the best chance of wintry weather to be north of the Tyler/Longview area.
Model data for tonight still suggests a very cold night. Lows in the middle teens and middle 20s across the area. Northwest winds at 10-15 mph will make it feel like the low teens and single digits tonight.
Keep you updated.
