Tyler — Coaches in the new 5A East Texas district met in Tyler Thursday.
It was like a homecoming for Lufkin.
The Lufkin Panthers had been playing teams from the Houston area.
But now the Pack will play area teams like Nacogdoches, John Tyler, Jacksonville, Whitehouse and Lindale.
"We're excited about being back up here," Lufkin coach Todd Quick told KETK Sports Director Danny Elzner. "This is us."
"We all have the same type of kids," Quick added. "We're excited about being back up here instead of going down south."
Ennis and Corsicana round out one of the toughest districts in the state.
But for Lufkin, the rest of the competition is just like coming home again.
"These kids are all going home to the same type of thing," Quick said. "It's going to make it a whole lot better."
