Lufkin, Tx (KETK) — An accused shoplifter at Walmart made things interesting for local law enforcement Thursday after she broke away from them during an arrest.
At noon Thursday, Lufkin officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 2500 McCall Drive for a reported theft. Authorities learned two women had been caught taking almost $300 worth of merchandise.
According to an LPD report, one suspect, Brooke L. Penny, 30, of Nacogdoches, escaped police after being arrested. She then ran away across the parking lot.
Officers were able to recapture Brooke when they found her hiding underneath a vehicle. She was booked into the Angelina County jail on a charges of escape from custody and theft. She posted $3,000 bail.
The second alleged thief, Melissa L. Jones, 27, of Lufkin, is charged with theft. She was released on a $1,500 bond.
Police documents show the women took makeup, clothing, food products and watches valued at $280.71.
