Longview, Tx (KETK) — Authorities have identified the alleged robber killed in a Sunday evening shootout with a Longview police officer.
The teen killed is Justin Aguilar, 15, of Longview, according to Gregg County Precinct 2 Judge Arthur Fort. He was pronounced dead at 10:00 p.m. the night of the shooting.
According to Longview Public Information Officer Kristi Brian, a robbery attempt happened around 6:00 p.m. at the "New-Way" gas station at the intersection of South Green Street & Avalon Avenue.
The robber ran from the scene, but the store clerk was able to provide authorities with a description, said police.
Law enforcement later found the suspect, but when they tried to arrest him, shots were fired. Aguilar, who was using a semi-automatic pistol, was shot and killed by police.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
The 300 block of E Avalon Avenue remains blocked off Monday morning as Texas Rangers continue to investigate the police-involved fatal shooting. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
