Tyler (KETK) — A Smith County man accused of capital murder will make his second court appearance in the last three weeks on Thursday.
John Grimes, IV, 25, of Tyler, was true billed on February 27 and will go to trial. A date has not been set.
The suspect will also appear in court on March 14 for a revocation of probation hearing. He had been on probation for assault on a family member before the alleged murder. The case will be presided over by Judge Thomas A. Dunn.
On December 1, 2013, Grimes was arrested and charged with capital murder after police responded to a home in the 500 block of East Brow Street to find the body of Tony Jeter, 65.
Around 11:09 p.m., police were dispatched to the residence and upon arrival found Jeter with a fatal knife wound.
Grimes has an extensive criminal record including the following:
Assault to a family member causing bodily injury
Failure to maintain financial responsibility
- 3 counts of marijuana possession
Grimes was booked into Smith County Jail on $1-million bond.
