Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — Authorities arrested a Lufkin man accused of choking his girlfriend and slashing a friend during a heated argument.
At 11:26 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to a disturbance in the 200 block of August Lane. After law enforcement arrived, they learned a couple's ongoing argument had turned physical, even involving a mutual friend.
According to the Lufkin Police Department, the boyfriend and girlfriend were involved in a disagreement at a restaurant earlier in the day, but the friend was able to calm the pair before things turned for the worse. However, later in the day, the dispute flared up again after they had returned home.
While at their house, the man, identified as Justin David Luna, 24, threw his girlfriend to the ground and began choking her. At this time, the friend tackled Luna. The suspect then slashed the friend multiple times with a knife. He received only minor cuts, police said.
Luna was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault family/impeding breath and two counts possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has been at $927 for the possession charges. He is still awaiting bail amounts for each assault charge.
