Harrison County, Texas (KETK) — The ex-boyfriend of an East Texas woman is behind bars after he was arrested in connection with her disappearance and murder.
On Tuesday at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Harrison County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney Coke Solomon's office recovered the body of Alicia Benefield after suspect Rodris Webster led investigators to that location. The location where Benefield's body was found is near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 31 and Elysian Fields Road in Marshall.
Detectives believe the alleged murder was committed when the pair was traveling in a vehicle between Elysian Fields and Marshall.
The site is still under investigation as an active crime scene and Benefield's body has been sent, by order of Judge Nancy George to the North Louisiana Crime lab for a forensic autopsy. According to Harrison County Sheriff Tom McCool, the autopsy is expected back within a few days and the final report in a few weeks.
Authorities said the family was key to helping solve the case, especially in convincing the suspect to admit to the crime. An arrest was made shortly after officials received a statement from Webster.
Bonds for Webster have been set by Judge Mike Smith at $1,000,000 on the murder and $15,000 for the felon in possession of a weapon. Webster was arraigned at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday morning. He is being held in the Harrison County Jail. More charges are not expected.
Webster had a previous felony conviction in Harrison County.
No motive is known at this time.
