Tyler, Texas (KETK) — Two East Texans are in custody after officials say they were caught in the act burglarizing a building.
Around 10:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, the Smith County Sheriff's Office received a call stating two men were burglarizing a building on County Road 171.
A neighbor confronted the men and they fled. The neighbor was able to provide a description of the suspects and their pickup.
As deputies arrived to investigate, a second call was received from Tyler Iron and Metal, located on North Loop 323. An employee of the business was suspicious of the suspects as they attempted to sell scrap metal. When the employee requested identification, the suspects ran from the business.
Deputies began searching the area and soon located some of the stolen property, which the men had abandoned.
The men were located on Highway 155 by Precinct 2 Constable Andy Dunklin. Smith County Sheriff's Office Detectives responded and the two suspects were arrested for burglary of a building.
The property was returned to the owner.
The two suspects are being interviewed and their names will be released after they are booked in to the Smith County Jail.
