Longview, Tx (KETK) — A re-count was held Tuesday for the Gregg County precinct four Commissioner race. A recount was called by Shannon Brown after losing the election to incumbent commissioner John Mathis by just two votes.
Tuesday's recount results placed Mathis as the winner again.
Precinct two Commissioner Darryl Primo says a fair recount is impossible with the county's electronic voting machines. He says the machines used by the county rely solely on electronic data and have no paper copies of the votes, which security experts have warned could cause inacuracies.
Primo believes those ballots recounted today are inacurate and relied too much on the technology.
" Paper is the great equalizer..everyone can count pieces of paper..and determine which side has the most votes.."
County Judge Bill Stoudt is vehemently opposing Primo's claims saying the voting machines are used across the state and they do provide proper copies of the ballots.
Judge Stoudt and election officials ensure the results are accurate and the machines are reliable.
