Tyler , TX (KETK) — Reginald Dwayne Clark was arrested at his home on Tuesday afternoon after law enforcement officials responded to his home in Flint for a 911 call involving domestic dispute. Officials with the Smith County Sheriff's Office say the former jail sergeant hit his wife with a gun. This is the fourth arrest of a Smith County Sheriff's Office employee since January 2013, but Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said they hold their employees to very high expectations. "I have more requirements than that, to do a good job, and to hold yourself out there to the standards that we set here at the sheriff's office. We can't have one or the other, its going to take both of them to maintain your employment here," said Smith.
Clark is one of four employees with the department to be arrested since 2013. Two weeks ago former jailer Keenon Olison was charged with selling contraband to inmates. In July 2013 Smith County Sheriff's deputy, Kimbrick Bernard, was arrested on charges of selling narcotics out of a patrol car. Another jailer Brandon J. Owens was arrested in January 2013 on aggravated assault and deadly conduct charges.
"I expect more from my employees than I do the general public," said Smith. He also believes this type of behavior is not tolerated, and said "If you don't that's you're choice, but also that's my choice not to keep you employed here."
Smith says all employees are screened before they're hired, but there's not much they can do to prevent these situations from arising. "Hopefully one of these days the employees that have the potential to getting into something like the last four have gotten into, will think twice about doing it," said Smith.
