Longview — The Meals on Wheels Ministry, which serves meals daily across six East Texas counties, had some high-profile helping hands Wednesdays during an annual “Mayors for Meals” event.
Longview Mayor Pro Tem Gary Smith and Gladewater Mayor Harold Wells were two of about 20 elected officials and “local celebrities” who fanned out across Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood counties to deliver meals to about 3,000 senior seniors and homebound individuals across the region.
“There is a lot of joy seeing these people. They know the person that is going to come there, and now they know the mayor is concerned,” Wells said. “I would just like to see more of us ride with those people.”
