Nacogdoches — The Nacogdoches Dragons earned a number of all-state honors following their stellar performances at the state swim meet Feb. 21-22 where they finished 10th overall and six events in the top-10.
Dragons receiving all-state recognition include: Ethan Carrillo, Chris Nett, Davis Pierce, Charles Mize, Lucas Kahn, and Wilson Castleberry.
Lucas Kahn – who finished third place in the 50-meter freestyle and fifth place in the 100-meter freestyle in Austin – received first team all-state honors for his performance in both events.
Second team honors go out to Chris Nett for his performance in the 100-meter backstroke (sixth place); the 200-meter freestyle relay team of Kahn, Castleberry, Carrillo, Mize (fifth place); the 400-meter freestyle relay team of Kahn, Nett, Carrillo, Mize (10th place); and the 200-meter medley relay team of Nett, Carrillo, Pierce, Mize (10th place).
Ethan Carrillo also received all-state honorable mention for this performance in the 200-meter individual medley, and the 100-meter breaststroke.
“I am extremely proud of these swimmers’ accomplishments, as well as the accomplishments of the rest of the team,” said head swim coach Carrie Scroggins, who also was named coach of the year.
Equipped with a strong combination of experience and upcoming talent, the Dragons have the pieces to carry out a long-lasting tradition of excellence.
“We have a mix of experienced swimmers who get to add to their resume of school records and state accomplishments, as well as some sophomores who are new to this level of swimming,” said Scroggins. “We are confident that these swimmers will continue to lead the team to carry on the tradition of district titles and state appearances.”
