(KETK) - Tyler, Tx — The 33rd annual 'Historic Tyler on Tour' event took place this weekend at various homes and buildings around Tyler designed by the late architect Shirley Simons Sr. It was a two day long tour of some of the oldest, most beautiful homes and buildings in Tyler.
You may have seen one of these historic landmarks while driving around town, but this weekend East Texans got the opportunity to take a peak inside and admire the work of the past.
"I think we've all driven by these homes and wished we could see what it was like on the inside," said Ginger Haberle, executive director of Historic Tyler Inc.
The goal of the event is to raise money so Historic Tyler can continue to preserve historic roads, buildings and landmarks in Tyler while also giving East Texans the opportunity to look around a few homes of the past.
"Just to have the opportunity to visit and be in these houses and hear the stories behind them," Haberle said. "It really gets you more connected to the city you live in."
Haberle told KETK they were very excited this year to be featuring the work of Shirley Simons Sr.
"They're so different this year," Haberle said. "You'll see completely different styles of decorating, architecture, and even though it's the same architect the houses are very unique, all of them."
Each house along the tour had volunteers that would take you room by room, giving brief details of the home and its owners.
