ARP, TEXAS (KETK) — A student Tristen Evans,16, of Arp, turned his imagination into a book and now that book is on store shelves. We got the opportunity to speak to the young author on Monday about his accomplishment.
He wrote a book called The Resistance: Carter, the character Carter leaves his home to fight in a war. "Growing up watching TV shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Harry Potter, I just love how they can create another world, a whole war as started because he was born so he joins his dad at a place called basecamp which is the only resistance against the people that are trying to kill him," said Tristen Evans of Arp.
It's about war, magical creatures, tough decisions and freedom. Evans started writing the book in the fourth grade. "I put it down because I didn't know how to keep it going, and probably last year when I was a freshman I brought it back out and finished it," said Evans.
His proud parents tell us they're so happy he accomplished his goal. In March, Evans held a book signing at Arp Elementary where he attended. "I always knew Tristen was such a creative and innovative child, he was always interested in reading the hardest things," said Kathy Stroupe, Tristen Evans' 5th grade teacher.
Students at Arp Elementary are so amazed and inspired by Tristen's book. "I think it's really cool that he did that because he's only 16 and most publishers are like 36," said Wyatt Ladd. He adds, "I say it's one of my favorite books, I can't wait until the second one."
Another student says, Tristen did a wonderful job and I love all the details he had in the book.
Tristen's brother Tucker who is almost finished with book says he's so proud of his brother.
Evans says he plans to write a series. As for the future he also plans to write a Christian Book.
You can find his book The Resistance: Carter on Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.com and Hastings stores in Tyler and Longview.
