KETK (Tyler, TX) — At the end of the April, 19 East Texans will be heading to Las Vegas to compete in the American Poolplayers Association 'National Singles Championships'.
The winner will take home $250,000.
East Texas APA owner John Ervin says this is the largest group he has taken to Las Vegas since he started owning the chapter three years ago.
The group is made up of experienced poolplayers, along with many who have just picked up a cue.
Those involved say the competition brought them into the pool hall, but the friendships they have made keep them coming back.
Many have made it to the Las Vegas round round before, but they say it's an experience that never gets old, and can be intimidating when you first walk into the the room.
"Feels awesome, I've been there before and you walk into that room with hundreds of tables and you're just overwhelmed, and at first it's scary," said Andy Urban, and APA member from Whitehouse.
The competition will last from April 30th to May 4th.
Ervin says since he's been involved he's seen the East Texas chapter grown from 33 team, to more than 120.
