Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man had to be tased Thursday morning during an arrest at a Lufkin Walmart.
At 11:51 a.m., police responded to a call for help at the business located at 2500 Daniel McCall Drive after witnesses spotted Darden L. Lewis, 37, of Chester, cutting items from their packaging and putting the merchandise into his backpack, according to the Lufkin Police Department. Officers were able to disarm the suspect of his knife shortly after arriving.
During Lewis' arrest, he began to struggle with law enforcement and escaped their grasp. The thief then bolted through the store and was caught again near the front entrance. Officers tased Lewis to finally take him into custody.
The suspect was charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest and theft. He was booked into the Angelina County Jail where bail was set at $1,500 for each charge. He has since posted bond.
