Tyler (KETK) — Three people are in custody this morning following the burglary of a home in the 11000 block of Sycamore Street in western Smith County.
At around 9:40 am this morning, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a burglary in progress. Smith County deputies were in route to the scene after receiving a call of suspicious activity in the area. During this time, the homeowner returned home to find the burglars leaving her residence. The thieves left the house in a black pickup truck and passed one of the responding deputies. A pursuit began and ended in the 12000 block of Highway 64 West.
When the pickup truck stopped, one of the passengers ran from authorities into a nearby wooded area. A second deputy chased the bandit on foot and caught him. The first deputy stayed with the vehicle and arrested the remaining two suspects on site. Numerous law enforcement officials responded to assist. Items taken from the burglarized home were recovered from their vehicle.
Two men are being held for involvement in the burglary, as well as a woman, who was the getaway driver. They are being interviewed by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office detectives at this time. A 4-year-old passenger in the vehicle has been identified as a relative of the driver and has been released to his mother.
It is not known at this time whether there were multiple homes burglarized in the same area in connection with these alleged criminals. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
