Nacogdoches, Texas (KETK) — A man wanted on a warrant was caught Wednesday morning in Nacogdoches, but it the was the condition of his kids that has him facing a list of charges.
In the morning hours, officers approached Carlos Vashon Gatlin, 28, walking in the 2400 block of South Street. Police were aware the suspect was wanted on a grand jury warrant for burglary.
Once authorities had Gatlin in custody, he told officers his two children were home alone and needed to be checked. When law enforcement arrived at his house in the 2000 block of Beverly Street, they found a 2-year-old girl asleep in the living room and a 6-month-old, secured in a car seat, in a bedroom closet. No adults were present.
Gatlin was charged with two counts of felony abandoning/endangering a child. He was also arrested on the burglary warrant. The suspect was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.
The mother of the children was at work at the time of the incident.
NPD and Child Protective Services continue to investigate the matter.
