Crockett, Texas (KETK) — The inmate who attempted suicide in an East Texas jail died Thursday after being moved to a Houston hospital in critical condition, Houston County Sheriff's officials said.
Joey Salinas, 36, of Conroe, was transferred the Wednesday after was found hanging  in his jail cell in Crockett, Texas. Authorities were able to keep him alive using CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED). He was then taken to a local hospital and place on life support.
Salinas allegedly attacked a guard while he was being treated for injuries at a Lufkin Hospital on Tuesday. He was injured the day before when he wrecked out a vehicle in a chase spanning four counties.
Salinas was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m. His body has been sent for autopsy.
This attempted suicide is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers.
