Quitman, Tx (KETK) — Fifty of the world's top fishermen will hit the water at Lake Fork on Friday for the Toyota Texas Bass Classic. Lenny Francoeur, the event director, said, "we take the best anglers from all three professional circuits and invite them here, so this is truly the best of the best." The eighth annual event is a combination of the best fishermen, with the best fish. "Lake Fork has seven of the top ten bass... The state record, 18.18 came from that lake right there," said Francoeur.
Professional angler, Brian Snowden, said this tournament is the 'reel deal.' He has qualified every year for it, and said, "Its kind of fun, we get to see people we haven't seen in a while, and its a great competition with some of the best anglers in the world." So what brings him back every year? "Well I actually won one back in 2010 on Lake Conroe, it's a great event, its fun, we look forward to it all year, and its got some of the stiffest competition," said Snowden. Plus the prize isn't too bad. If he wins, he will take home $100,000 cash, and a $50,000 boat. "I have a good chance I think, you know, there are a lot of fish off shore, and that's one of my strong points so its setting up to be a very good event I think," said Snowden.
However, its not all about reelin' in the big bucks, proceeds are thrown back into Texas lakes. "In the past 8 years we've given over $2 million now to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department,' said Francoeur. That money helps hook East Texas kids on fishing. Francoeur added, "those funds go to support inland fisheries programs, youth programs that exist 12 months of the year."
This event is also family-friendly, and for kids of all ages. There will be mechanical bulls, archery, inflatable fun, and Yamaha and Toyota test driving. Plus big names like Pat Green, Little Big Town, and Justin Moore will perform. For more information click here .
