Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — Two people were killed Tuesday morning in a major accident on Highway 59 North.
A car carrying a mother and daughter, Susan Holloway, 52, of Glendale, Wisconsin, and Katrina Holloway, 19, crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler, driven by Jose Hernandez, 49, of Houston, headed north on 59, after it began stopping for a light about 100 yards away, said Lufkin Police Sergeant Mike Shurley. At 11:00 a.m., when emergency crews arrived at the scene, the car was so far underneath the trailer, it was pushed into the back seats.
Authorities say the pair was headed back home from a trip. They were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Judge Billy S. Ball.
The road was shut down while crews cleared the scene. The highway reopened around 12:20 p.m.
No other injuries were reported.
