(KETK) Tyler, TX — New leadership is coming to the city of Tyler.
Mayor Barbara bass is leaving office after serving the maximum of two-three year terms.
She was elected as the first female mayor of Tyler in 2008, but Bass has been an active part of the Tyler community since moving to the city in 1977.
The outgoing mayor tells KETK she plans to stay involved. 'Going forward I will continue to be involved at some level. I'm going to step back from any serious time commitment on committees for a while as I regroup. I certainly think that the story of the flock of geese flying and the head goose goes to the back and lets someone else lead is appropriate.'
Bass will be succeeded by Mayor Pro tem and City Council Member, Martin Heines, who beat Joel Rando in the May 10th election. Heines will be sworn in on May 2, 2014.
