Dallas/Austin, Texas — Drug enforcement agents arrested the owner of several head shops in Dallas and Austin after a bust involving synthetic marijuana.
38-year-old lawrence Shahwan is currently in the Dallas County Jail. he's booked on a charge of possession with intent to distribute.
Federal documents allege "Shahwan" built a drug trafficking organization that dates back to at least 2010.
The document says last september Shahwan's business entered into an exclusive contract with the Gas Pipe for four-million dollars for their stores which are located in Texas and New Mexico.
Two locations in Austin are both specifically mentioned in court records.
Authorities say undercover officers purchased versions of "Spice" under different pre-packaged brands at these locations.
Federal agents say that means the stores there would be subject to seizure penalties - meaning police can shut them down.
As of Friday the downtown Austin store was still open. Neither Austin store has been seized by federal authorities so far.
The Gas Pipe has nine stores in the DFW area and two in Austin.
