Longview — Children, parents and lifeguards were everywhere Saturday for Splash Day, a free, one-day gift of public swimming at Longview’s two pools.
“Every year, this is a place for kids to come for family time and interaction with their parents,” Parks and Recreation Manager Kim Miller said Saturday at the Longview Swim Center next to Pine Tree High School.
“It’s always a big turnout.”
Allison Fields, 13, of Gladewater caught some shade and snacked on chips at the sidelines of Ingram Pool on 10th Street.
“Since I’m home-schooled, I get some extra time to come to the pool because I don’t have as much homework,” Allison said.
“We come here most summers, but this my first time at Splash Day, which is cool.”
Allison came with her little brother, 10-year-old Adam, to give their dad free time as he prepared to work in the evening.
