Flint, Texas (KETK) — Officials with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office tell KETK, two toddlers, one of which is now dead, were found in a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.
The call for help came in around 3:00 p.m., near the 18,000 block of Smith County Road 1100, near Flint. When first responders arrived on scene, they found two girls, ages three and four, unresponsive in the vehicle.
The four-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where she later died, while the three-year-old was treated at the scene and released.
According to Shari Pulliam with Child Protective Services, at this time it appears this could possibly be a heat-related death. Pulliam urges citizens to keep vehicles locked when children are around. She also tells KETK, CPS has not taken custody of the child that lived and there is no CPS history with the family.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is investigating this incident.
