Tyler — For the sake of full disclosure, I do not follow the NBA. Like baseball, I'll sneak a look at the playoffs and the championship games. I'm human.
From casual observations, I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the San Antonio Spurs. They have such, what appears to me, a quiet and business-like demeanor.
In a professional sports world today of chest beating and "hey, look at me," I was stunned to see how they sat on the bench , taking a breather, and politely went back in to mop the floor with Miami.
Their coach really impresses me. All I ever hear about when it come to the NBA is the Phil Jackson zen and the slicked back hair genius of Pat Riley. We always hear about them.
Popovich had four world championships with San Antonio and no one ever speaks about him. I do know he's funny during press conferences and doesn't put up with stupid questions from sportswriters.
I did some research on the guy they call coach "Pop." He graduated from the Air Force Academy. They don't hand out grades there. He served our country in the Air Force. He then coached at the Air Force Academy and then went through the journeyman route of coaching in the pros.
He's been with San Antonio for 18 years. They now have five championship trophies-- not bad. And even better, I don't even know who owns the team. I don't care.
I wonder if other owners may be looking at that as an example. Nope, it will never happen.
That's my point of view what's yours?
