Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — On Tuesday, an East Texas man was arrested after leading police on a pursuit in which one officer was involved in a crash responding to the call for help.
At 10:45 p.m., an officer tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Davis Street and Joplin Street. The driver, identified as Eric Lopez, 28, of Lufkin, sped away and a chase began.
During this time, another officer attempted to assist in the chase and crashed with another vehicle while en route. The officer did not require medical attention, but a passenger in the other vehicle involved complained of neck and back pain. The passenger was taken to a local hospital.
Meanwhile, the suspect ditched his vehicle and began a foot chase. Lopez ran across railroad tracks and several neighborhood home yards. Police caught up to Lopez in the 1200 block of Houston Street and attempted to bring him under control with a taser.
When authorities used the taser, only one prong hit Lopez and was not effective. Police were eventually able to subdue him.
The suspect was arrested and charged with evading arrest. He was booked into the Angelina County Sheriff''s Office.
DPS is investigating the officer-involved accident.
