Lufkin (KETK) — Lufkin Police arrested a man for stealing more than $100 worth of alcohol and food from a Walmart Supercenter located at 2500 Daniel McCall Dr.
On Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., William Joseph Griffith, 51, of Lufkin, was detained by security after they witnessed him pushing a buggy with several items out the front door.
Employees said they noticed none of Griffith's items were bagged and then approached him as he attempted to leave the store. Griffith was asked for a receipt but could not provide one. He was then questioned which register he paid for the items but could not answer the question. Security escorted him to the loss prevention office where the security tapes were reviewed. At that point, Griffith admitted he had not paid for anything that was in his buggy.
Authorities said Griffith tried to steal a black backpack, two boxes of Franzia wine, a pack of powdered Gatorade, a pack of watermelon spears and a 30 pack of beer totaling a value of $123.77.
Griffith was arrested for theft and booked into Angelina County Jail.
