Kilgore, Texas (KETK) — Police arrested a Kilgore man early Saturday morning after he allegedly stole items from multiple vehicles.
According to the Kilgore Police Department, at 12:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Monroe Street on reports of a person walking into a garage and breaking into vehicles. When a responding officer approached the scene, he spotted a suspect running away and was able to identify him as Lechell Deke Scott, 31.
Scott is a known criminal to police who has committed car burglaries in the past, and he matched witness descriptions of the recent burglar. The suspect was taken into custody and authorities were able to find some stolen property in his pockets.
Investigators determined Scott had burglarized multiple vehicles and tried to break into more in the area of Monroe Street. One witness said they saw Scott walking down the street attempting to enter various vehicles by pulling the door handles.
The alleged thief was arrested and charged with burglary of a vehicle with two or more previous convictions, a state jail felony. He is currently the Kilgore Municipal Jail with a bail set at $15,000.
Kilgore Police urge the public to lock their vehicles to protect their belongings.
