Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man is behind bars after police said he beat his wife with a belt and bit her nose.
On Monday at 2:40 a.m., authorities were called to the 2900 block of South Chestnut on a report of a disturbance in progress, said Lufkin Police Sergeant David Casper. Upon arrival, officers talked with the suspect and victim to receive statements.
The victim told officials the suspect, Alex D. Montgomery, 34, of Lufkin, was intoxicated and attacked her while making cheating allegations. She said Montgomery then bit her on the nose and struck her multiple times with his belt. Officers were able to see redness and swelling on her nose and whelps on the victim.
The suspect also claimed he had been attacked, but there were no visible injuries. He was arrested and booked into the Angelina County Jail on an assault/family violence charge. No bail had been set as of noon Monday.
The charge was enhanced to a third degree felony, due to his violent past. Angelina County Jail records show Montgomery has been arrested at least four other times on similar charges.
