Gladewater, Texas (KETK) — Authorities have released more information on a multi-county chase that took place Monday night. The incident ended after the alleged drunken suspect wrecked and was caught on foot.
On Monday at 7:00 p.m., Gregg County deputies were dispatched to an aggravated assault family violence call at the EZ Mart convenience store on State Highway 135 in Kilgore. Authorities met with a woman who told them she had been attacked by her ex-common law husband, 33-year-old Robert Justin Moorehead.
According to the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, the victim stated the incident began earlier in the day when Gladewater PD responded to Lake Gladewater to separate Moorhead and the woman. When she was leaving the lake and returning home with her four children, Moorehead reportedly followed her and rammed the back of the woman’s vehicle with his truck.
Kilgore Police responded to help and found Moorehead in his vehicle. The suspect then led officers and DPS troopers on a chase through Gregg and Smith Counties. The pursuit ended when Moorehead wrecked out after he hit a DPS vehicle in the area of Old Highway 135 in Liberty City. The suspect ran from the crash site and was caught a short time later. He was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and was treated and released.
The suspect was booked into the Gregg County Jail. His bail totals $635,000.
