Longview — A longtime tradition of the Longview mayor and City Council has been put on hold this year but may soon be coming back.
It’s been more than nine months since the mayor and council members sat down with residents of each council district for a town hall meeting. In the past, each city district was the site of a town hall meeting once during the year to allow residents to meet their representatives and voice their concerns or approval.
This year, another effort has been taking precedence.
“We have had so many public meetings as a part of (the comprehensive planning) project,” said Mayor Jay Dean. “We didn’t want to stretch staff to where we had public meetings on top of public meetings.”
The annual meetings drew an often small, but usually vocal, crowd and were typically conducted in a community center within the district.
