LONGVIEW - On April 10, 2010 at around 10:22 p.m., Longview Officers were dispatched to a two-car accident in the 2500 block of MLK Boulevard at Sapphire Street.
Officers arrived and found that a 2005 Chrysler 300, driven by 64-year-old Dorothy Daniels, had collided with a 2001 Chrysler Sebring, driven by 33-yearold Jia Thompson. According to witnesses, Daniels had been southbound on
MLK and had attempted to turn onto Sapphire Street, when she was struck by Thompson, who had been northbound on MLK.
Daniels and her two passengers were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center. One of her passengers, 75-year-old Bobbie Portley of 18 Wylie Circle in Longview, died a short time later as a result of her injuries. Thompson and her passenger were transported to Longview Regional Medical Center.
Although the investigation is ongoing, traffic officers believe that Thompson was traveling at a high rate of speed and was intoxicated. Charges may be filed once the investigation is completed.
