While driving his personal vehicle In the early morning hours of 05-26-2010 (1:47 am), off duty Tyler Police Officer Matt Leigeber noticed suspicious activity that he felt was a theft in progress. Two people, one male and one female, were hastily placing a lawnmower and other lawn equipment in a vehicle that was parked in the roadway 4800 Picadilly.
The Officer stopped to investigate and identified himself as an officer at which point the two suspects fled in their vehicle from Picadilly, and south on Paluxy. The off duty officer followed the suspects until on duty officer Marvin Bullard could stop the vehicle in the 6300 block of S Broadway. At the time of the stop, several items of lawn equipment were visible in the vehicle, and both suspects gave contradicting stories as to their activity at the time they were seen on Picadilly . Both were detained while the resident on Picadilly was contacted.
When contacted, the homeowner of the home on Picadilly confirmed that the items located in the suspect vehicle had been stolen out of his garage. Subsequently both suspects were arrested and booked into the Smith County Jail.
The driver, Anya L Jackson w/f 04-27-1984 was arrested for Burglary of a Habitation and additionally cited for Driving While License Invalid and Expired Registration. The passenger, Emilio Hernandez Silva w/m 06-18-1974 was charged with Burglary of a Habitation.
The recovered stole items, a lawnmower, an electric hedge trimmer, a gas edger, and a circular saw (total value $500) were released at the scene to the owner.
