I've said before when there is a disaster, no president ever reaches in his pocket and has a template to go by.
George Bush caught unmitigated hell for being perceived as late on the Katrina mess.
He unwisely sat on his hands while Louisiana authorities said "we got it", and then they didn't and the mess was right in Bush's lap.
He then, in my view, made a grievous error.
I can remember when the White House said Mr. Bush will fly over the New Orleans mess while on a fund-raiser in San Diego.
I remember looking at my wife and saying, 'he'll rue the day he ever made this decision.'
So no one is without sin.
That being said...
The clumsy way the Bush administration handled Katrina is nothing like the day to day torture that we go through watching the Obama team handle or mishandle this.
Ironically, one of the few places this administration was going to actually cut, response to oil disasters in the ocean.
The spill happened before that transpired. See for yourself in the Washington Post.
While the media excoriated Bush for a few lousy games of golf, Obama seems to be on vacation all the time.
It's ok with the press corps now that the president plays golf and travels for fun.
Now, it's ok for the president to get away.
I don't think anyone has enjoyed being president more than he.
