TYLER-The East Texas Food Bank's summer food program is officially in full swing.
Organizers kicked off the program Tuesday at the City Park in Tyler. The program provides free nutritious meals to children at 36 sites throughout East Texas.
The East Texas Food Bank estimates it will serve more than $160,000 meals this summer. Officials say the need is much greater this year than before.
"We're projecting 50 percent more meals than we did last year because of the economy," Director of the East Texas Food Bank Robert Bush said.
