The City of Tyler Traffic Engineering Department has installed a traffic signal at the intersection of Loop 323 and Briarwood Road. It is anticipated that this signal will become operational the afternoon of Thursday, August 26, 2010.
This signal will allow for protected left turns from both the Loop onto Briarwood Road and from Briarwood Road onto Loop 323. These protected left turns will help increase the safety of motorists.
“We are pleased to have the construction of this signal complete so close to the start of the school year,” said City Traffic Engineer Peter Eng. “Several private entities came forward and provided private matching funds that allowed this project to move forward. The new signal will enhance motorist safety as well as help coordinate traffic flow on the Loop.”
The enhancement of traffic safety and efficiency is a priority of the Tyler 21 comprehensive plan. The addition of this signal will pave the way for the extension of the adaptive control system to the west portion of Loop 323. The adaptive control system measures traffic volumes and adjusts the signal system in real time as changes are needed.
In the next month one additional signal will be built on Silver Creek Drive near Orr Elementary on the North Loop.
