TYLER—The 10th Annual Pets in the Park took place Saturday afternoon at Bergfeld Park in Tyler.
This was the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Humane Society of East Texas. All of the money raised goes towards operating funds for the shelter. The event wasn't just a great way to raise money; it's was also a great event for people and their pets. And some of these four-legged friends showed up dressed to impress for the occasion.
Last year more than 1,000 people and about 500 animals were at the event, which raised more than $8,000.
"We lost $200,000 last year when we lost our contract with the city and the county," Director of the Humane Society, Gayle Helms, said. "So it's important for us to keep up these fundraising events to help us keep our doors open."
And if you weren't able to make it out to the event Saturday, the Humane Society of East Texas is always looking for volunteers and donations. For more information on how you can help, call the Humane Society at (903) 597-2471 or log onto their website at www.hsoet.org [1].
