TYLER - The neighborhood along Cumberland Road is known for its spacious lots and spacious homes, and neighbors say, that is why they moved there!
But according to one resident who's working on the half-cent sales tax committee, this road could be turned into a four-lane highway in the next fifteen years with revenue from that tax.
So, although it's a-ways down the road, neighbors are banding together to protect this road and their neighborhood.
Since it's not a "Historical District," neighbors want to make it a "Neighborhood Conservation District."
So the city council is allowing two people from planning and zoning, two representatives from the neighborhood, and one at-large community member to decide if the neighborhood qualifies to be preserved.
Neighbors along Cumberland also want to make sure this area doesn't turn into a commercial area, they want to leave it as a place with homes, no apartments or businesses.
