SMITH COUNTY - Early voting is underway. And more and more people are taking advantage of it.
Thousands of East Texans have already completed their civic duty by casting their ballot early. Some as early as last Monday when early voting opened. And with ten more days to go before the big day, there's still plenty of time.
Voters are already heading to the polls in a number of states. Voters in battleground states have to wait in long lines for hours just for the chance to vote a few days early, according to recent reports.
We spoke to voters in Smith County who said they're also taking advantage and voting early, the only difference, shorter lines. The early voting numbers in Smith County have been high, elections administrator, Karen Chaney, said. She said when the polls closed Friday, almost 20,000 Smith County residents had already voted. And 1,300 more ballots were cast Saturday morning alone.
"Were trying to recommend early voting," Chaney said. "We just don't know what to anticipate on the fourth. But I'm thinking there definitely will be a big turnout."
So if you're planning to vote, there are some important items you need to remember to bring with you. "They need to bring there voter registration card and if they don't have their card its okay to bring their driver's license," she said. Bringing these items will make the process a whole lot easier for everyone.
