SMITH COUNTY-- Smith County roads can only hold up to 30,000 pounds. Truckers need a permit to drive overweight vehicles. Right now, they have an option to get a state permit for $400 or a county permit for free. Constable Andy Dunklin has another solution, though. He says by charging $100 for a county permit, the money can stay in Smith County and be used to fix damage caused by overweight trucks. He presented the idea today to Commissioners.
