On Saturday September 11, 2010 the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address on VZCR 3508 in Edgewood in reference to a man that had been shot. Upon arrival the Deputy was advised that the home owner had been shot twice. The Deputy reported that the victim was transported to Cozby Germany Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Deputies at the scene established a crime scene and obtained statements from witnesses.
Deputies determined that a suspect, Jonathan Mitchell, was the one who shot Williams. Mitchell was taken into custody by Deputies and transported to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office without incident. Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office Investigators were called to the scene. Upon their arrival at the scene they were briefed about the situation. After obtaining search warrants a crime scene search was conducted by the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office, as well as, the Texas Rangers.
Jonathan Mitchell remains in custody at the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office and is being charged with Murder. Mitchell’s bond is set at 1 million dollars.
