TEXAS CITY, Texas — Texas City police say a Clear Lake man died when his motorized paraglider crashed near a levee.
Witnesses told police that 58-year-old Michael Larronde was doing acrobatics Sunday afternoon when the paraglider went down into water about 2 feet deep.
Emergency medical services Capt. Robert Ebert says bystanders waded into the water to try to save the pilot.
Larronde was transported to a Galveston hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy has been ordered.
Larronde was a member of the Texas Wingnuts. Vice president Beery Miller told the Galveston County Daily News that Larronde was accomplished in acrobatic moves.
